ASB North Wharf

The ASB Group of companies is one of the largest providers of financial and insurance services in New Zealand.

ASB’s new 23000m2 head office is one of the most advanced commercial office buildings of its type in New Zealand. The ASB Headquarters creates a benchmark for Australasia and is at the forefront of new workplace buildings internationally.

The smart integrated technology system is designed to control and manage the services within the building to ensure that lighting, access, security, communication, climate control and connectivity all link together to optimise the quality of the work environment, while also reducing ecological impacts and greenhouse gas emissions.

The external frame of the building incorporates a highly efficient skin to provide solar and wind control, daylight, views and thermal comfort to its occupants. Windows in the building can be opened allowing natural ventilation for most of the year, while at the same time minimising the use of mechanical air conditioning.

ASB Group aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 20%, and this new building will be measured for a Green Star New Zealand rating by taking advantage of the latest sustainable building and technology practices.

The building has 5,000 individual steel louvres, arranged in a pattern of fins and leaves which are strategically positioned to collect heat and light without obstructing harbor views.

The six storey building incorporates air cooled chillers and a rainwater harvesting system which will cater for approximately 70% of the building’s water requirements.

And ASB are pioneering activity-based working, a freelance approach, as developed by Veldhoen Company of the Netherlands where workers can change desks depending on what they are doing, this Philosophy dominates the design of Auckland’s new waterfront ASB North Wharf.
